Process Engineering

PROCESS ENGINEERING IS AN IMPROVEMENT PHILOSOPHY

It aims to achieve step improvements in performance by re-engineering the processes through which an organisation operates. Focus is on maximising their value-added content and minimising unnecessary attributes (e.g. time, cost, complexity, duplications etc..).

This approach can be applied at an individual process level or to the whole organisation. Benefits are achieved through a cycle of benchmarking, assessment (including facilitation of self-assessment), interviews with process owners / contributors, process / process map engineering, process step testing.

BENEFITS

Processes (and associated policies, procedures, work instructions etc.) provide change and transformation toward a defined end goal.

Processes should not remain as static documents but should embrace feedback from their Owners, Users etc. for self- corrective action and continual re-development, ensuring they remain fit for purpose.

Benefits are numerous and include:

Improved quality and consistency of processes
Reduced process time as a result of process streamlining
Removal of unnecessary or duplicate process steps
Increased Customer / User satisfaction
Reduced time to market
All process inputs and outputs fully understood and documented
Reduced cost

Consistent process format adoption by all teams

Generation of Continual Service Improvement initiatives
Increased internal resource knowledge

PROCESS CHARACTERISTICS

When developing processes, Whitmore Solutions Consultants ensure that certain key characteristics are considered and included:

Processes must be MEASURABLE. Measures will clearly differ depending on the process and audience.

Processes are inplace to provide EXPLICIT RESULTS. If the result cannot be clearly articulated (e.g. a cost saving, reduced changes, numeric change), then it is questionable whether the process isneeded.

Every process requires an OWNER.

Every process should deliver results to a CUSTOMER or STAKEHOLDER.
